I’m a big proponent of knowing how various mechanics in the industry work, so I’m here to demonstrate how you can use a floral pillow to create a sculptural bouquet.

My friend Holly Chapple designed this helpful mechanic for arranging both bouquets and centerpieces. This pillow mechanic is available through 46 & Spruce, who are proud to provide quality products from Syndicate Sales directly to you, the florist!

Using a Holly Chapple Pillow in Your Floral Arrangement

I’m creating a sculptural bouquet, so I’m beginning with a tripod technique with my greenery, then adding in a line flower in order to take color out to the edges of the arrangement.

Notice that I’m inserting these ingredients at an angle and around the rim of the pillow. Once I have several stems in place, I can hold the bouquet by the stems directly beneath the Holly Chapple floral pillow.

Covering Your Floral Mechanics When Designing with a Floral Pillow

You can use several types of flowers to help cover your mechanics, but the key is to make sure its petals have a decent amount of coverage. I’ve chosen to use carnations for this function in this arrangement.

Speaking of floral mechanics, remember that not all of your ingredients have to thread through the floral pillow. You may need to add a few stems around the outside to help cover the edges of the Holly Chapple floral pillow.

Floral Ingredients in This Arrangement

  • Ninebark

  • Snapdragon

  • Majolica Spray Rose

  • Iris

  • Carnation

  • Garden Roses

  • Umbrella Fern

  • Buplerum

  • Anemone
