Flower Discoveries: Scientific Studies on Plants and Flowers in the Home

Have you heard about those studies about how being close to plants and flowers in the home and the workplace can improve mood or creativity? Amanda was looking through the Slow Flowers Insights and Industry Forecast recently, and came across this quote:

Design: Kelly Perry of Philosophy Flowers

“Studies have proven that even the smallest bit of nature — a single tree, a small patch of flowers, a house plant — can generate health benefits,” said Kathleen Wolf, a UW research social scientist in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences. “Look closely in your neighborhood, and the bit of nature you may have taken for granted up until now may become the focus of your attention and help you feel better.”

So go out and bring nature in, and don’t forget to share the love with your community! (Read the full study here.)

Keeping along the science trend, how long will an old seed still be able to germinate?  Jesse discovered one of the longest running experiments in the world—one that tests old seeds for germination! So that pack of seeds you found hiding under your work tools? Some of those just might grow!

Lastly, Kelly is sharing a couple of resources on protecting yourself when working with bagged soil as well as information on Rose handler’s disease. Make sure you’re aware of your surroundings and are taking care of yourself.

Use the Art of Storytelling to Connect with Floral Clients on Instagram

Social media is one of the best ways to market yourself in this day and age. But it takes more than simply having an account and posting a photo every so often. The quality of your photos play a big part, but the picture has a much greater impact when you use the art of storytelling to connect with your clients!

Aleya Harris, Team Flower Member and owner of Flourish Marketing, is here to share how you can easily implement this art in your day-to-day efforts on Instagram!
