How to Easily Create Large Event Floral Showpieces with Serenity

Large-scale floral design is more popular than ever for weddings, events, and even photoshoot stylings.

These over-the-top floral showpieces are all the rage and are the beaming focal points at events.

Large-scale floral arrangements are often showcased at cocktail hour, on larger table setups at wedding receptions, on entryway tables, or any location at an event that needs to make an impression.

Does the idea of designing, pricing, constructing, delivering, and setting up large floral pieces make you shutter? It doesn’t have to!

These giant floral arrangements may seem daunting when looking at a photograph, but they become much simpler when you break them down into smaller pieces! With the new mechanics available today, you no longer have to worry about make-shifting different components of these large arrangements.

This makes them easier to price, saves you time on planning and product sourcing, and makes delivery, set-up, and tear down a breeze. Read on to dissect these large arrangements and learn how to create them for your events with ease.

Build Large Floral Arrangements Easily (And Transport Them Easily, Too!)

Large-scale creations usually consist of multiple parts—it’s really the only way something like this can be transported. Many of these showpiece arrangements are even created onsite, which adds to the delivery and set-up hours—and ultimately means less on your bottom line.

To avoid this, it is best to bring all of the pieces finished and assemble them together into one piece on site. But how? Thankfully, the days of chicken wire-wrapped Lomey dishes of foam and make-shift risers are over. Start by incorporating the Serenity line into your inventory.

These pieces aren’t just for elevating urns and statuary. The large and extra-large foam cages are heavy-duty and perfect for creating more extensive floral arrangements. Even the rectangle and round platforms are ideal for elevating a feature wire stand, container, or event glass piece of your choosing.

I like to start by placing the platform risers to properly fit the base of my chosen showpiece container (after soaking the foam, of course). Make sure that your chosen container fits on top of the risers after you place them.

It will be nearly impossible to move the risers after the cages are designed; it pretty much locks them into place.

To give the risers a finished look, I always base them with a bit of moss underneath, around the edges.

I prefer any of the Bella Moss reindeer moss from 46 & Spruce as it is soft, malleable, and comes in colors that coordinate well with the flowers.

This makes it easier to green-in your piece without any foam showing when you’re done. Once your platforms are in place, you can green the large base and add the flowers. Think of this in comparison to making a large casket spray; only it will sit on a table or bar.

Next, create your upper-tier arrangement. This is the flashy floral that sits on top of the showpiece container. If you use a decorative garden urn, perhaps it is simply a bucket or insert that fits nicely inside. If you are using a metal stand, you could easily use another Serenity cage system and create a large, sprawling, stunning arrangement.

The cage is wide-set and contains sturdy foam that is great for larger stems such as Pampas Grass, tropical flowers, or large branches. The cages also have space for a small reservoir of water at the bottom, which is great for outdoor arrangements.

If you are using a glass event piece, such as a tall cylinder, I recommend using a Holly Chapple Pillow™ mechanic so that your stems have access to fresh, clean water. Design your arrangement on the counter, not on the base arrangement, in order to complete it with ease. Now you have three separate components that can be easily transported and assembled on site.

The large arrangement topper can be placed in a small bucket of water when using a Pillow™ mechanic. The event glass should be transported clean, empty, and in its box.

The Serenity base is sturdy and low-profile, making delivery a breeze. Once on-site, simply place the base arrangement, add water to the event glass, and set it on top of the Serenity cage. (Yes, it is strong enough to hold a large glass vase full of water!)

Next, top the glass with the topper arrangement, and you’re done! These pieces are so sturdy they even work outside! Tear-down is just as easy, maybe even easier, because all you have to do is dump out the water from the vase.

Now that you have the proper tips, tricks, and tools to construct these large-scale showpieces for events, where will you try them?

The photos featured in this article are from a wedding in Vail, Colorado. This showpiece was the focal point of a charcuterie table and the entire cocktail reception.

It even spent the night outside as vendor pick-up wasn’t until the next day. Impressive right? Try it out.
