See this content in the original post

In this video lesson, you’ll learn how to observe floral elements for inspiration while adjusting your arrangement layers for a smaller centerpiece.

A lot of students in the Centerpieces & Reception have asked how to adapt to a smaller arrangement, so here I’ll show you how!

Ingredients for a Small Garden-Style Floral Centerpiece

Creating a floral arrangement is all about making room for things—especially when it comes to small floral centerpieces. It’s a constant process of building and finding a home for the flowers.

When we take the time to notice characteristics such as the gentle gradiation of color in an ingredient or the organic shape of a type of foliage, we are better able to utilize our ingredients in a way that highlights its natural beauty.

Ingredients in this particular small wedding centerpiece are the following:

  • Spirea Foliage

  • Gold's Dart Ninebark

  • Diablo Ninebark

  • Polka Dot Pippa Hybrid Foxglove

  • Ranunculus

  • La Belle Epoch Tulips

  • Coral Bell Foliage

  • Geum

Key Points When Creating a Small Floral Centerpiece

  1. When making an arrangement, a big part of it is to let the "right" pieces take space while also creating a balance of making room for the focal flowers and more focal accent pieces.

  2. Color must be distributed evenly, which is why I use three to four shades of greenery—even for a smaller arrangement piece.

  3. I use my own yard foliage to create movement and texture in an arrangement. It's important to utilize one's yard space if possible to keep some of these great fillers/foliage!

  4. Mixing in more than one type of greenery adds interest and an extraordinary look to a simpler arrangement.

  5. I prefer to concentrate the color balance with light and darker colors complimenting one another, making a point to place them in certain spots.
