Flower Discoveries
This week’s discoveries are for the growers! If you’ve been listening along, you’ve heard that Jacelyn is starting a cutting garden in her backyard. She’s sharing a book on starting from seed that she’s found super helpful in this process called, The Gardener’s A–Z Guide to Growing. We’re talking about what’s growing in our gardens, and Amanda is sharing how to propagate sedum. Lastly, Jesse is telling all about his fancy sprinkling system!
Special Guest: Amanda Luu of Studio Mondine
Amanda Luu is the co-founder of Studio Mondine, a San Francisco based design studio with an emphasis on design, education, and community-building. As a self-professed minimalist, Amanda seeks to explore simple yet striking flowers in her work. The Studio Mondine aesthetic can best be described as a negotiation between the wild, overgrown English garden with the intentional precision of Japanese ikebana. We’re excited to announce the release of her book, Ikebana Unbound, with Artisan Books September 2020! Get your copy here!
Amanda is sharing how the global pandemic has given her the ability to look at flowers with refreshed eyes. When was the last time you created an arrangement for yourself or experimented with something new—whether an ingredient or a technique? So often, florists look at the blooms around them through the eyes of their clients rather than utilizing the unlocked creativity within. Amanda and Kelly are also chatting about working well with other event vendors and why one should join this incredible industry! Be sure to follow Amanda on social media at @studiomondine.
