Video: Create a Unique Ring Bearer Greenery Pillow in 7 Steps

There are some roles in a wedding that are often overlooked when it comes to floral design, and the ring bearer is one of those!

In this excerpt from the Team Flower Bouquets and Personals class, I’ll show you a unique approach to dressing up the role of ring bearer by making a pillow out of hosta leaves. All of the materials used can be easily found in your own studio: ribbon, a small round Oasis cage, and snips.

Steps to Create a Ring Bearer Pillow:

  1. String a ribbon through the holes on the sides of the oasis cage to make a little handle for the ring bearer to hold. Be sure to leave a little bit of flexibility.

  2. Take that same ribbon and wrap each side through and around the top of the cage on the corresponding side. Be careful: Don’t allow the ribbon to contact the foam so you can avoid dust and water stains.

  3. Organize your leaves from biggest to smallest, as you’ll use the larger leaves on the bottom of the pillow and smaller leaves on the top.

  4. Begin inserting the larger leaves into the Oasis cage around the bottom in a circular pattern. Continue this in layers from one level to another until you reach the top. (Your ribbon ends should be coming out of the center.) Remember to use the smaller leaves as you get closer to the top.

  5. Once you’ve created your layers, look around the pillow for any glimpses of green foam.

  6. When you arrive at your event, place the pillow on the ring bearer’s hand, tightening the ribbon until it is a nice, snug handle. Tie a knot at the top to secure the fit.

  7. Thread the rings through the ribbon, and tie a sweet little bow to finish it off!
