Workshop Alumni Interview: Giti Gerami
Giti Gerami owns Botanica Wedding Flowers Studio in Rhode Island. She has over 15 years of experience in floral design. Her love for flowers began as a child as she worked dried and silk arrangements into her family's interior design business. Giti worked at a flower shop after she moved to the United States 20 years ago. She eventually purchased the flower shop and turned it into a thriving wedding flower studio. In the midst of the transition, Giti joined us at the 2016 Team Flower Workshop, which helped her navigate the waters of the wedding floral industry. She took some time to share her experience with us.
Where was Botanica Wedding Flowers when you attended the 2016 Team Flower Workshop?
"I had recently started Botanica Wedding Flowers Studio. I had previously worked at and owned a flower shop that made daily flower deliveries and designed for a few small weddings. Even though I had just switched from the daily shop to the wedding studio, I was unsure that it would be successful. I desperately needed to be taught and trained when it came to the in's and out's of weddings."
How has Botanica Wedding Flowers grown since then?
"Attending the workshop completely changed my view of flowers! I left with a new motivation and confidence in myself and my dream. My style and my tone changed from classic design to garden-inspired designs. Now, two years later, my reputation speaks for itself, and my wedding studio is a thriving business."
What would you tell someone who is on the fence and considering joining a workshop?
"It will change your life. Kelly has such a bright mind - everything she does is light and enthusiastic - there is brightness all around her. She is thoughtful and warm and teaches in a way that is easy to understand. You will learn to be brave. You will gain confidence. Your business will improve. You will fall in love with what you do all over again."
Describe a few of the key items you gleaned from the Team Flower Workshop that have impacted Botanica Wedding Flowers.
"There were so many things that influenced me! One of the largest was learning to arrange using the garden-inspired design. I had never been taught that style before, and because it is all the rage right now, that knowledge and skill have brought me a lot of business since I left the workshop. Also, I had never run a wedding studio before, so the entire process between designer and client was new to me. Kelly walked us through each step: pricing, proposal, design, implementation. I still use a variation of that same method!"
