Video: How to Make a Large Flower Comb
In this excerpt from the Team Flower Bouquets and Personals class, Kelly is walking through the process for making a flower comb, one that will be used in the back of a bride’s hair.
Because this piece will be rather large, she’s using a large comb with an overhang on either side of the teeth. You’ll also need wire, stem tape, and flowers!
How to Make a Large Flower Comb:
Begin by wiring a few roses. This will give you control over which direction the flower faces.
Make two small corsage-like bundles out of your various flowers. Wrap each bundle with stem tape.
Wrap a piece of wire with the same color stem tape you’re using.
Attach each corsage bundle on either side of the comb with the wrapped wire. You can add a little extra wire on the edges if you feel those flowers might shift around without it.
Add in your focal flower! Wrapping the stem wire around the comb will also allow for extra security for the small bundles attached on either side.
Lastly, move the flowers around to ensure you can’t see any of the stem tape or wiring, adding in another bloom or two if necessary.
Notable Points for Making a Bridal Floral Comb
Make sure you use stem tape that will blend in with your clip.
For efficiency, go ahead and wire all of the same flowers at the same time. It will allow you to move pretty quickly through them!
When attaching the small flower bundles to the comb, be sure there are no wire ends pointing out toward the bride’s head.
