Video: Practicing Creative Play with a Peach Rose Arrangement

In this video, I’m designing a tall, full peach-toned arrangement in the lovely Rosie Pot from Accent Decor. I’m using chicken wire as my mechanics for this centerpiece.

As you watch, you’ll notice how I experiment with the placement pattern of my various ingredients—all while keeping my ultimate goal in mind.

If you ever have leftover event flowers, or a bit of extra “play” money in your budget, practicing diverse designs is a great way to expand your know-how!

There are essentially two ways of thinking through an arrangement: inspiration and creative play. With creative ventures, you can experiment with placement patterns, shape, structure, size, colors, textures, new combinations… the list goes on and on!

Focus on things you learn that you can apply to your regular offerings. Perhaps it’s a new shape or color combination, or maybe it’s new mechanics!

Key Points for Creative Play in Floral Design:

  • Layering blooms one by one (rather than in groups of three) is a different type of placement pattern you can utilize as you play.

  • Reflexing roses is a great way to add some texture and interest to the arrangement.

  • Creative ventures encourage you to discover different flowers and varieties and help you know whether or not you can justify purchasing specific ingredients for your everyday design work.

  • Unless you’re creating a tailored centerpiece, make sure you place some blooms further out than others to create depth in your design.

Ingredients in this Peach Rose Floral Arrangement:

  • Scented Geranium Foliage

  • Celosia

  • Hydrangea

  • Lisianthus

  • Strawflower

  • Scabiosa

  • Peach Shiver Roses

  • Various types of peach roses
