Flower Discoveries: Flower Transportation

Abie Livesay Photo

You’re in for an assortment of knowledge from the team this week. Kelly has been reading Amy Merrick’s book On Flowers, and it has given her so many sweet pauses. If flowers are in your life in any capacity, this book is for you.

Are you an event designer who gives gifts to their clients? Do you own a shop with custom items? Jacelyn has discovered Clay Treasures (@clay_treasures)—a small online business that creates custom earrings inspired by bouquets and arrangements. These earrings are the perfect gift! Check them out here.

This last discovery is for farmers who sell at markets, pop-up designers, and wholesalers who are asking how to transport their flowers efficiently! Janine came across a product from Johnny’s Seeds called the Procona Transport System (thanks to Team Flower member Shylie Richards). It’s especially made for flower farmers who are going to sell bouquets at a market, but would be great for designers doing pop-ups or even wholesalers who deliver flowers to designers. Each system comes with a plastic rectangle container, a thick cardboard collar, and a plastic lid. The collars allow for the flowers to remain intact while also being securely stackable. It would be an awesome investment! Check out this quick YouTube video explaining the amazing assets of this product.

In this episode of the Team Flower Podcast, Kelly Mendenhall of 3 Leaf Floral is chatting about what it’s like to design for off-the-grid events (aka: on top of a mountain or out in a field, etc.). As you can imagine, there are countless obstacles to overcome, so you’ll hear several tips and tricks to making this type of design happen!

Kelly works in extreme temperatures and is giving examples of flowers that hold up well in both hot and cold weather. And you’ll hear her absolute necessities if she on a time crunch and has only an hour to decorate an arbor!

Kelly Mendenhall has been a wedding florist for over 10 years in her home state of Colorado. Her company serves the western slope including notable resort areas such as Aspen, Telluride, and Moab, Utah. She’s located in fruit and wine country and is often in the flower farmer’s fields picking ingredients moments before the wedding day. So far she’s done everything from her home studio, raising 3 rambunctious boys while growing her company, but is hoping for a studio space in the near future!
