Fast Flower Video: Wisdom Begins in Wonder—Purple Centerpiece

 

 

I'm here to bring you some of the prettiest purple ranunculus you’ve ever seen in this purple centerpiece, a gorgeous flower arrangement! I picked these up early in the morning at the New York market in February before popping in to hear Shane Connolly speak at Flower School New York (he’s delightful, by the way).

Purple is my favorite color. I don’t wear it much, but when I got married, it’s what I picked for my flowers, and I’d do it again. If you research color a bit, you’ll find colors carry a lot of meanings. Royalty is commonly associated with the color purple, but what stood out to me when I looked at the list today was wisdom.  

Many years ago I picked up an art print at the Dollar Tree (of all places!). It was a child, just walking outside in his overalls and bare feet. It said, “Wisdom begins in wonder.” I’ve carried that print through my college years, through every move, and even now, I still carry it.

The definition of wonder is “a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable.”

You are perfectly positioned, right now where you are, to train your eyes to see and your heart to feel wonder. In those moments, quiet or surrounded by noise, you’ll grow in wisdom. You’ll learn about the value of yourself, the value of people you pass—you’ll find that you are royal and the people you pass are also kings and queens. You are a leader—in kindness, in peace, in stability. So, put on your purple. It’s your color. Put it on the people you pass; it’s theirs.  

I’m always amazed by what a dollar can do, and more so, by what you will do through your work with flowers—especially purple ones.
